Teran’s solo work is characterized by a ‘global pop’ style that hops across borders and multiple genres including Alternative Pop, Banda Sinaloaense, Country Western and Balkan sounds. On February 24th, North American audiences were finally introduced to Liber Teran’s extensive solo work through ‘The Best Of’, which compiles many of Liber Teran’s past singles, as well as career creative highlights.
Liber Teran’s ‘The Best Of’ is receiving growing radio support across North America. The album was officially added by both SiriusXM and KEXP (Seattle). The album is also seeing growing spins from KCSN (Los Angeles), KPFK (Los Angeles), ), KUT (Austin), KPFT (Houston), KCSB (Santa Barbara) and World Beat Canada, as well as nationally syndicated programs like ‘The Latin Alternative.’
Liber Teran stepped into the public eye in 1998 as the frontman of Los de Abajo, a Latin-Alt band who found a patron in The Talking Heads’ leader David Byrne, who signed them to his influential Luaka Bop label for a pair of albums. With their high-energy live shows, Los de Abajo found great success in Europe and were later signed by Peter Gabriel to Real World Records. With such high profile fans, it should come as no surprise that Liber Teran’s style of global pop has won over countless fans on multiple continents.
Album highlights include the first single “Apuntando El Cielo”, a hook-filled piece of reggae pop that is sure to please fans of Manu Chao and The Clash, not to mention longtime fans of Los de Abajo. “Sal y Ven” is a riveting duet with multi-Grammy winning Mexican alt-pop diva Julieta Venegas, while “No Te Vayas” features musical contributions from three members of Cafe Tacvba as well as Iñaki from Fobia/Moderatto. Café Tacvba member Quique Rangel also produced Liber Teran’s third solo album ‘Errante’ in 2012. ‘The Best Of’ was released by Regalia Records, the label led by Josh Norek, the former Nacional Records executive and co-founder of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC).
